Do You Know the Pie Man?

I do.  I'm married to him.  Actually, I think that is really supposed to be the "muffin man" (that lives on Drury Lane) but for this purpose we will use the word "pie man".  My Sweet Hub does like to bake some pies.

And I wanted to tell you all how much he enjoyed your comments about his pie.  He has quite the baker's hand, that man of mine!  And this time of year, he is in his element.

This is his go to book.

This is THE recipe! When he is more leisurely about it, he will bake his own crust.  But in a pinch, Mrs. Smiths does the work for him.

And while the results are not always THIS stunning, the above, is a never fail recipe.  Sweet Hub puts his spin on it, always tasty.  There is nothing like sitting in the Studio and having the smell of pumpkin pie wafting in.  Heavenly.

As a kid, I usually turned my nose at the poor pumpkin pies.  Pecan was the one for me.  But he has made a believer out of me, now they are one of my faves.  Specially his, which are just a wee bit more spicy than the norm. 

 

But wait.  He does cake too!  Ain't I the lucky gal?  This is his other go to book as well.

He made this for one of my Mom's bdays.  It was fantastic and this pretty. 

And oh so yummy! 

 

Who knows, maybe there could be a "pie hole" in our future?  Nawwwww.  (ohmygosh!  do you not miss this show? was one of our faves!!!!). 

For now, I'll just reap the benefits of having my own personal "Ned".

Favorite Things Party

Or thing.  As in singular.  As the case may be.  But more on that in a moment.  But the party's on, and I've got the drinks.  Or drink.

Cute Melissa is having a "My Favorite Things" party today!  And it looks like fun!  (Hey, I've already spotted a great CHEAP lip liner, thanks Melissa!).  So pop over and see what is cool and fun that everyone is posting today.  Here's my contribution:

OK.  This is my personal MOMB (monkey on my back).  White Chocolate is the only flavor I like (but you might be tempted by the many others).  It's hard to find, cost $5.00 a can, but oh.so.good.  

 

I justify it this way, a Venti costs about $4.00, for the cost of $5.00 I can make several cups over a three week (if I limit my cuppage) period.

Caffe D' why can't I quit you?  LOL.  So check out Melissa, the party is today and for just in general, she has a really cute decor blog!  Lots of fun ideas and creativity and just a great story on the background of her blog name!

This one is called "Walking through the Woods on a Snowy Evening" and contains some old and new.  The little deer are vintage and oh so sweet.  Will be listed later (way late, as I'm fixing to go to work) tonight on my Etsy.

Yesterday, we were due to make two pumpkin pies and a large pan of dressing for our church Thanksgiving meal.  Well, as I pre-heated the oven,  and talked on the phone with my friend R., I heard a strange "popping" noise.  Something bright caught my eye and I looked over to see sparks and flames inside my oven.  I calmly told R., "wow, my oven is on fire".  She replied, "uhm, I think you should hang up then".  LOL.  I opened the oven (mistake) to see black smoke rolling out and the flames worsened.  I quickly shut the door and shut it down.  Got Sweet Hub to go turn off the electricity to the stove. 

I tell you all this to say, did you know that the baking element could break (in an electric oven)? I had no idea.  A wee bit scary in the moment, but a trip to town and three hours later, the cookin jam was on. 

 

And all was right with the world.  (And a piece of great pumpkin pie helps too!).  Sweet Hub...bakes and fixes ovens, I think I'll keep him!  ;D
