I seem to be bird and nest obsessed lately. And ever since my friend Sandra sent me this cute little print of one her paintings,
well, I've been inspired as well. (BTW, don't you just love the colors?) I think this would make the most adorable set of note cards! Sandra, hint, hint!
Anyway, Sandra's whimsical piece has inspired me to experiment a little. I love how Sandra's bluebird has little bits and pieces of book pages worked into the artwork. I love it. I was so inspired, that I began working some strips of old book pages into some frames and flower pots (click on photo to enlarge) that I was painting. I like the way it looks and I plan to keep experimenting. Maybe some bits mixed in with the actual artwork, similar to what Sandra has done. I love her chunky, fun style too. Opposites attract I guess, for my own style seems to be very dainty and prissy.
Here's what I created:
I was tentative to say the least. I ran a small pink-edge strip of an old book page down the side of the frame. And again around the tops of the flower pots. I wanted just a "touch" of the book page piece. But,
I'm going to keep playing.
That's one of the many things I love about blog land, that we share and inspire each other. It's fun to take someone else's idea as a jumping off point and then play with it and make it something else.
And is it just me or have you noticed how more and more things have a scrapbook/altered art feel to it? I attended Market for one day and noticed how many plates, frames, bookmarks, ornaments, etc all had a little "altered" feel to them. Especially ones with certain fonts and damask and scroll overlays. I thought that was very cool.
Ane me, well, I seem to be moving back and forth, from paints, to paper, to fabric and back again.
With the same theme in mind. Birds, birds, birds.
