Welcome to the Party, Kari's Artful Blogging Party! Or would that be my party FOR Kari's Artful Blogging or just my party? Oh! I don't know, but you get the idea and you're here, so welcome, welcome.
Kari is one talented lady and I want to say congrats again for such a wonderful article in the new Artful Blogger mag. It's a great mag and if you haven't picked it up yet, do so, it's really good.
Well, Kari said that she hoped each "party person" would do a tutorial on a craft. Since I'm limited to using my scanner for pics, since I can't seem to wheedle any good photo's out of my camera (user error I'm sure! LOL), we will just keep it simple. Well, grab your scissors and glue, let's make a Hanky Card!
First, out of your stash of old hankies or your old material, grab your fav and make a color copy. Here's mine:
I love this one. The colors are so great. There are many possibilities of colors to mix in with, from turquoise to pink, or red or yellow or green, even some black. I just love the colors and the cute little scalloped edge. Love the edge and that is the main reason for using this one.
So once you have decided on your fabric or hanky and then get you some ribbon, buttons, florals, whatever floats your particular water craft. And a card. I use one of those value pack things. My is a 5-1/2" x 4" folded white card stock.
Cut out the portion of the color copy that you want on your card and glue it to the front of the card stock form. I'm making sure that the scalloped edge is on the right hand side (lengthwise of the card). Then I cut around the scallops so that it looks like this:
This will form a "cut-away" edge. "Ooh, Aah". I'm sure there is a more "technical name", but we will just call it the cut-away edge.
I usually take a Sharpie Marker that matches the color of the trim and just clean up the little white edges and such, especially if the edges have frays or damages, cause the copier seems to copy that too.
Once you've gotten that piece down, its time to really get fun. Grab your papers to fill in the rest of the card. I'm going to add a strip of pink/white floral on the left-hand side (lengthwise). Once I've got that glued down I'm going to run a sticker strip of white/green gingham (also lengthwise) just where the two papers meet. Then using some sticker letters (I think they are some old Mary Englebreit letters) I'm going to spell out the word "Beauty" across the front of the card. Then I'm going to use my "funky" writin' and add in the rest of my favorite quote. If you don't like your own writing, I'm sure you could use rub-ons or a stamp. Last i added a vintage ribbon bow and affixed that to the bottom, so now my card looks like this.
Now open up your card and on the inside of the back page, glue down (lengthwise) about a 1" wide strip of paper. I'm gluing down a turquoise/white polka dot strip. So now, my inside of my card looks like this.
I started to put in a comment, such as "congrats on your accomplishment" or some such thing, but decided to leave it blank.
Now, my finished card looks like this.
The "cut-away" edge should rest against the turquoise strip giving you that really cool 3-D look.
See? Easy-sneezy. Everyone will love your Hanky Card and think it's cool, cause it looks like a Hanky. Can't ya hear it now, "Dude, your card looks like a hanky!" Or a similiar compliement, depending upon the age of the card recipient.
Usually with one copy I can usually make one to two cards and even a little tag depending on how I cut the color copy.
Here's some more samples.
I made another card using only the center part of the hanky.
This card has a "cut-away hole". (Insert your own smart-alec comment here, LOL). Again, I'm sure that's a "technical term".
Here's the inside:
And last, but not least, a sweet little Hanky Tag!
Well, thanks for stopping by. It's been great to meet ya! Enjoy the rest of the parties.

Gosh! I never thought of colour copies of fabrics... what a brilliant idea! Thanks for the demo!

Oh, you clever girl you! Thanks for all the great ideas. And I love the name of your blog - yapping cat?? I'm sure there's a story behind that. I laugh because sometimes when I'm cuddling with my chihuahua I wonder why she's not purring and then I remember - oh yeah, she's not a cat.
